Stoke to cover compensation bill

Stoke City are no longer covered by FIFA's club protection programme, which paid goalkeeper Jack Butland's wages when he was injured on international duty last spring. But since Butland returned to training briefly in November before suffering a setback, the club is now liable for £2million in wages without the 23-year-old making an appearance.
